“One company merges with another and “poof,” your security is gone. The days are long when you are unemployed. All the work you used to do, vanished. All the people you used to know, vanished. Then there’s the medicine you need. Panic, worry about who the next doctor would be and how that doctor would react to a poor unemployed soul who needed medicine and protection when a nasty infection overtook my otherwise pretty healthy self.
I’ve been to doctors who shamed me just for saying, “Well, I’m really tired.” Their response: “EVERYBODY’S tired.” Well, yeah, I know that, but I needed just a little moment of sympathy. Like, “Yeah, you’re tired. It’s probably nothing, but let’s check you out.” That would have been therapeutic right then.
So, when I went to North Coast, I was ready to do battle and tell the doctor that just because I was unemployed it didn’t make me less of a person than he was. I really had my teeth bared. I mean, for cryin’ out loud, all I needed was blood pressure medicine to keep me on an even keel!
From the very beginning, each individual I encountered was: Congenial. Pleasant. Tolerant. Informative. Helpful. Willing to assist. And above all: LISTENED.
They listened to me. Carefully.
They addressed my concerns and resolved my medication issue. Got me the medicine I needed to keep me going. That was a number of years ago, but I remember it well. And I was astounded that I didn’t have to fight. North Coast Health just stepped in and did what needed to be done. Simply and efficiently. Graciously.
Now I can deal with my family. Raising two grandchildren who are fatherless. (My God, they’re sweet.) Bill paying, retiring too soon, and moving along with the tides like the ocean.
I’m so glad we’ve met. It’s made all the difference.”
