We at North Coast Health understand quitting smoking is tough. And if you are a smoker, chances are you’ve quit before, but have gone back to nicotine use. That’s ok, research suggests the more quit attempts an individual has made the greater chance they have of quitting smoking for good. Smoking cigarettes contribute to long term health problems and despite all the cessation programs, smoking remains as one of the leading causes of preventable death.
With the financial support of University Hospitals, North Coast Health is launching a smoking cessation program to help our patients quit smoking. Staff is actively inviting all smoking patients who are interested in quitting to attend our smoking cessation class. Most insurance carriers cover these classes and no smoker who is a client of North Coast Health will be turned away.
The benefits of a smoke-free lifestyle are multifold, from increased lung capacity and lower blood pressure to the renewed pleasure of taste and smell, with the ultimate goal of improved overall health. Patients enrolling in the initial session are learning ways to quit; from traditional methods such as medication and nicotine replacement to wellness activities including nutrition, yoga, exercise and reiki.
North Coast is grateful to the grant funding provided by University Hospitals and the support of community members including Heinen’s Rocky River, Puma Yoga Lakewood, The Reiki Room Lakewood and Lakewood Family YMCA to help our patients live healthier smoke-free lives.
